"Our Bernie"

How blessed have we been to have the kind & gentle Bernie Ahearne in our our lives,  she was wonderful company, funny & so clever.  Over the years we consulted her on all things medical, she was so knowledgeable & one of four who graduated with honours from the Class of 1963 at Mayday Hospital.

We loved her from the minute we met her when she arrived at the School House on the back of Richie's motorbike in the early 60's, so tiny & pretty & after their wedding many happy years followed of family gatherings , communions, confirmations & of course lots of music.  She brought up four beautiful  daughters who were adored & who adored her, whilst all the while working in the surgery at 501 until her retirement.  It was such a cruel stroke of fate when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's which she bore so bravely all these years.  Losing Richie was such a terrible blow for her especially when he had always promised that he would go first!   It is a comfort for us to think of them being reunited  once more.

The days we had with her over the last couple of years have been very precious & there aren't enough adjectives to say how amazing & courageous she was.  We will so miss our phone calls with her too as she would always have news about the grand children & of the course on the two new arrivals in the family great grand children Evelyn & Elijah.

God Bless you lovely Bernie, we will miss you so very much.

With all  our love

Tony & Marie xxx
